I am always excited to find out that I need one less thing without skipping a beat. Recently, I pared down my spices to 15 from 25. The ten I let go I never used. I had bought them for a recipe that didn’t work out or for something I didn’t enjoy eating/cooking. However, I love garlic salt. Garlic salt really makes the chicken salad or chili. Here, I have finally done without, and I want to share with you how to make your own garlic salt on the fly.
3 parts salt + 1 part garlic powder (by measurement)
6 parts salt + 1 part garlic powder (by weight)
So for chicken salad, since I already eyeball everything, I also estimate this (3 to 1). For my chili that fills my entire Crock-Pot to the brim, I use 1 Tablespoon salt and 1 tsp garlic powder. Also, I throw in a dash of parsley since garlic salt also has parsley in it.
The true benefit is not just having one less thing, but also in using garlic powder/parsley, so everything is always fresh.
I am looking forward to this new year, and I hope that you will join me in the excitement of eliminating one more thing. The longer I live, the more I embrace change and less. The less I have, the more the things that pull very little weight stand out and offer a bright new idea in exchange.
